Maritime sector and public meet in Zeebrugge

On 4 and 5 July, the Zeebrugge Naval Base once again opened its doors to the general public. Visitors were given the opportunity to discover the people, technologies and vessels that contribute to safety and operations at sea every day.

In addition to Belgian naval ships, a number of foreign vessels were also open to visitors. Demonstrations, interactive activities and meetings with crew members made Navy Days an engaging experience for families and maritime enthusiasts alike.

Navy Days offered not only a glimpse into the past, but also into the future of the Belgian Navy. Visitors had the opportunity to discover the latest generation of mine countermeasure vessels.

Particular attention was drawn to the Oostende, the first vessel of the new City class. The ship represents an important step in the continued modernisation of the Belgian fleet and demonstrates how innovative technologies are finding their way into maritime operations.

The 2026 edition also marked a special milestone. This year, the Belgian Navy celebrates its 80th anniversary, highlighting the occasion with a dedicated exhibition and a range of additional activities for visitors.

As a result, the event offered not only an educational and technological experience, but also a historical perspective. Visitors discovered how the Navy has evolved over the decades and the role it plays today within Belgium, Europe and NATO.

Navy Days attracted not only thousands of visitors to Zeebrugge, but also a broad representation of the maritime sector. The event created a unique environment where maritime companies, knowledge institutes, public authorities and organisations could meet, exchange ideas and inspire one another.

With a varied programme and attention to both history and technology, Navy Days once again confirmed its value as a showcase for the sector. The event brought visitors closer to the worlds of shipping, offshore activities, marine technology and defence, while underlining the importance of collaboration for a strong blue economy.
