Robotics is evolving at breakneck speed and opening up new possibilities in an ever-increasing number of sectors. In industry, logistics and other complex working environments, AI-driven robots, autonomous mobile systems and advanced sensor technology are enabling more efficient processes, predictive maintenance and safer operations. Machines are becoming smarter, more flexible and better able to perform tasks in dynamic and demanding conditions, which significantly increases their economic and operational value.

This evolution is also taking shape at sea, with applications designed to address the specific challenges of offshore activities. Maritime operations are often costly, high-risk, difficult to access and subject to harsh environmental conditions. Robotics can therefore play a key role in inspection, maintenance, monitoring and autonomous operations on and under water. At the same time, the maritime context calls for robust and integrated solutions, with particular attention to power supply, connectivity, reliability, safety and collaboration between different systems.

During this Blue Session, you will receive an overview of the state of the art in robotics and its potential applications in the marine environment, complemented by experiences and insights from companies that are members Blue Cluster. We will then continue in breakout sessions focused on specific applications and sectors. Together, we will discuss where the current state of the art still needs to advance in order for robotics to achieve a real breakthrough at sea and for specific offshore activities.

Topics include:

  • AI-driven robots for offshore maintenance and repair;
  • Autonomous drones and vessels for inspection, transport and security;
  • Advanced sensing and AI for enhanced situational awareness at sea;
  • Connectivity and data fusion in autonomous maritime systems;
  • Ethical considerations related to the deployment of AI and robotics in maritime applications.

In addition, we will explore how these insights can be translated into project proposals for the open VLAIO and KHID calls, while fostering collaboration between companies, research organisations and other stakeholders
