At the end of June, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union approved the European Climate Law. This climate law includes the binding objective of reducing the CO2 emissions in the European Union by 55% compared to 1990 by 2030.

To achieve that objective, the European Commission launched a number of closely linked proposals under the name ‘Fit for 55’ last month. These include reviews of the existing legislation on the one hand and new instruments on the other.
