Meet the winners of the Blue Innovation Awards 2024
The 2024 Blue Innovation Awards ceremony once again demonstrated that the blue economy is thriving in Flanders. The presented projects were all of particularly high quality. That did not make it any easier for the jury and the audience.
On Thursday 13 Jun, the winners of the Blue Innovation Awards 2024 were announced during the Plug and Play Maritime EXPO Day in Antwerp. Blue Cluster proudly presents the winning initiatives:
- The ZULU MASS by Zulu Associates won the Blue Innovation Wave award. The ZULU MASS is a ship that is part of a radically new logistics concept and is designed to operate unmanned. In the long term, the ship will evolve towards emission-free propulsion.
- MycoFence by Citribel was rewarded with the Corporate Blue Innovation Wave award. MycoFence is a 100% natural product that makes fish more resistant to diseases and stress. This innovative product benefits the well-being of all farmed fish species.
- The project Nature Inclusive Design of the Princess Elisabeth Island, a collaboration between Elia and various public and private actors, received the Blue Innovation Swell award. Many measures are being taken in this project to promote biodiversity around the future energy island.
- MycoFence's innovative concept eventually managed to get the most votes from the public and therefore also won the Inspirational Blue Wave award.
The winners will feature prominently at Blue Cluster events in the coming year year and may use the unique Blue Innovation Awards logo.
What are the Blue Innovation Awards?
The Blue Innovation Awards are an initiative of Blue Cluster to give exposure to innovative projects, products and services in the blue economy.
All entries are scored on the basis of five criteria: innovative character; link to economic activities in, on and by the sea; market potential; international ambitions and impact; and contribution to the delivery of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
