Help determine the criteria for the Princess Elisabeth Zone

The Belgian federal government has decided to increase the capacity of the wind turbines off the Belgian coast to a maximum of 3.5 GW. In combination with the existing offshore wind farms, the total offshore wind power capacity in Belgium should amount to 5.8 GW by 2030. This is an almost threefold increase compared to the current offshore capacity.

With a view to the energy transition, the Belgian federal government strives for a larger share of renewable energy. In this respect, the production of offshore wind energy near the Belgian coast is considered.

Since there is no space left in the first offshore wind energy zone of the Belgian part of the North Sea, additional wind farms will be built in the Princess Elisabeth Zone. The Belgian federal government has therefore proposed several criteria for the tender process.

To enhance the involvement of companies, environmental organisations and private individuals in all this, a public consultation about the call for tenders is held. The aim is to present a better proposal on the basis of the input of all parties involved.
