Combat water scarcity with the Water Barometer
Lack of water resources is a matter of major concern to Flemish companies. The Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) has launched the WaterBarometer to help them select the appropriate measures. The WaterBarometer provides companies with an insight into their water management and suggests targeted optimisation actions.
An extensive water balance with all water flows and related costs is visualised and the threats to water sources are mapped. At the same time, an environmental analysis is conducted with nearby alternative, sustainable water sources. Suitable purification techniques for these water sources are presented.
The WaterBarometer enables businesses from the food, aquaculture, textile and tourism sectors to use water more efficiently, and has been developed within the Smart WaterUse project. Blue Cluster has also been involved in this project.
Let’s get started
Interested in optimising your water use? The tool is freely available on www.waterbarometer.be. After registration on the website, you can make use of the various modules.
Do you first want to find out more about how the WaterBarometer works exactly? If so, you can take a training session free of charge (Dutch only). For further information, please contact Flanders' Food.

About Smart WaterUse
Smart WaterUse is a cooperation initiative aimed at mapping and reducing water-related risks within the food, aquaculture, textile and tourism sectors. The project is coordinated by Flanders' FOOD and facilitated by Blue Cluster.
The partners in this project are watercircle.be, VITO, Vlakwa, Centexbel, Fevia and Ghent University. The project can also count on financial support by Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO).
