On Tuesday 28 February, all members of Blue Cluster are welcome to the 3rd edition of the SME café which takes place at mechanical construction company De Meyer in Temse. The SME café is an initiative by the SME committee of Blue Cluster aimed at giving companies the opportunity to get to know each other better in an informal setting.

During this SME café, you will learn more about De Meyer, a family-owned SME active in the engineering, production and maintenance of mechanical structures such as bridges, lock gates and remotely operated underwater vehicles.

After some explanation of the company’s activities, you will go on a tour of the workshops. During this tour, you will see various large mechanical constructions, including a hammer for the installation of monopile foundations.

In addition, you will have ample opportunity to socialise with other small and medium-sized enterprises active in the blue economy during a network lunch.

Background information

De Meyer is a family-owned SME established in 1934. In 2015, the company became active in the offshore sector with the development and production of the "boom lock".  Shortly afterwards, they also started to work on a turbine for energy recovery in locks. Since then, they have also developed a specific generator for this application.

In May 2022, the company was dealt a major blow with the death of CEO and driving force Dirk De Meyer. The company got back on its feet and is now ready to continue Dirk’s lifework through the efforts and focus of all employees!

De Meyer is open to cooperation with a view to the further optimisation of the turbine for energy recovery in locks, and is also looking for other applications for the unique generator developed by the company.
