I3FLOAT is a large-scale European project that aims to further strengthen Europe’s position in floating wind energy and to stimulate collaboration between companies and research institutions across different regions.

Workshops are being organised in several participating regions to collect input for the Floating Wind Innovation Roadmap. This roadmap identifies the key technological challenges and innovation needs and will form the basis for future Open Calls (cascade funding) within the project.

The Belgian workshop in Aalst brings together companies, research institutions and other stakeholders to help shape this roadmap.

Format

During this interactive afternoon session, we will jointly identify the main technological innovation lines for floating wind energy. The outcomes of this workshop will feed directly into the overarching Floating Wind Innovation Roadmap.

This roadmap will in turn guide future Open Calls (cascade funding), through which funding will be made available for projects addressing concrete technological challenges.

The working language of the workshop is English.

Focus areas

The roadmap is structured around seven technological focus areas:

  • Floating substructures, mooring systems and dynamic cables
  • Dynamic electrical infrastructure and grid connection
  • Wind turbine, tower and FOW-specific control
  • Wind farm layout design and site planning
  • Industrialization
  • Logistics and offshore installation
  • Operation, maintenance and decommissioning

Practical information

Participation in this workshop is free of charge, but prior registration is required. The number of places is limited. In case of high demand, registrations will be handled on a first come, first served basis.

When registering, you will be asked to select three focus areas of particular interest. Based on these preferences, working groups will be formed to ensure discussions align as closely as possible with the expertise present.
