Successful Flemish Aquaculture Symposium

Aquaculture may potentially play an important role in our food supply in the future. For that reason, many Flemish institutions and companies are increasingly focusing on the cultivation of fish, crustaceans, shellfish and algae.

The Flemish Aquaculture Platform organises an annual symposium during which interesting projects and the latest trends in the aquaculture sector are presented. This year, the event took place on Friday 29 October. The central topic was sustainability of aquaculture.

The following speakers took the floor during the event’s tenth edition, organised by Blue Cluster and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ):

  • Noémie Wouters, Bluebridge NV @Ostend Science Park;
  • Grant Stentiford, Centre for Environment, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS);
  • Nick Pannecoucque, Provincial Technical Institute (PTI) Kortrijk;
  • Lien Loosvelt, Blue Cluster;
  • Paola Giavedoni, EIT Food;
  • Roeland Wouters, INVE Aquaculture; and
  • Peter Goeman, Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO).

After the content part, all participants were able to chat and enjoy a reception with various snacks and drinks.

This event was organised with financial support from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) and the Funding Instrument for the Flemish Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector (FIVA).
