Inspiring visit strenghtens cross-border collaboration

The Visserij-Innovatiecentrum Zuid-West-Nederland in Stellendam vividly demonstrates how the fishing industry has evolved into a modern and technically innovative sector - one in which innovation is an ongoing process and technologies continue to advance. During the field visit, participants met innovative entrepreneurs working in the field, toured testing sites, and observed applications at sea. The working visit to Stellendam was part of the ambition of the Blue Cluster and RVO to collaborate closely on strengthening the sustainable blue economy.

The visit once again highlighted how diverse societal challenges converge in the North Sea. Food production, nature conservation, renewable energy, safety, and economic activities all share the same limited space there. At the same time, it became clear just how much potential exists to arrive at sustainable solutions through innovation and collaboration. The group also discussed the report on the Sustainable Blue Economy, which helps to clearly define the challenges and opportunities of the blue economy both substantively and strategically.

For the Blue Cluster, this visit primarily confirms that the sector possesses strong innovative capacity. The next step lies in strengthening collaboration, connecting various stakeholders, and scaling up innovative solutions to achieve actual impact. The Blue Cluster looks forward to further expanding this collaboration with partners from sectors including aquaculture, renewable energy, marine nature development, and maritime innovation.
