Good blue intentions for the new year

Dear members, friends and colleagues,

The pandemic brought matters to a head and made it painfully obvious how much change is still needed to meet the Paris climate goals. 2020 was the only year in which global carbon emissions were on track to meet the climate goals. By 2021, this was no longer the case.

The European Union wants to be at the forefront of the transition to a carbon-neutral economy, but even if we succeed in achieving our European ambitions, we are far from reaching them on a global level. We must therefore remain committed to sustainability, and not only in terms of the energy transition, but in all domains.

To make this a real success story, it is essential that citizens are closely involved and gain insight into their personal benefits. Otherwise, they will only have the impression they have to foot the bill for everything. Support creation is important, and at Blue Cluster, we are strongly committed to this aspect.

As a spearhead cluster for the sustainable blue economy, we are happy to work on this transition. We feel supported by the Flemish Government in this regard, which has recently confirmed that it wishes to unlock Flanders’ untapped economic potential via the spearhead clusters.

However, no matter how you look at it, to achieve a more sustainable world, we primarily need much more innovation. And for that we rely on pioneering companies and organisations. I would therefore like to thank you for all your efforts, and we are proud to be of service.
