Ambitious goals for more offshore wind energy

What does the future of offshore wind energy look like in Belgium and in Europe? Smart data use and cross-border cooperation offer many opportunities for further developments in this sector. These topics were therefore extensively discussed during the 2021 Belgian Offshore Days.

On 17 and 18 March, we discovered the added value of smart data use for offshore wind energy and were presented the Inn2POWER project results at the Belgian Offshore Days. In addition, Minister Van der Straeten and Minister Van Quickenborne elaborated on the plans of the federal government for more offshore wind energy

On the first day, companies active in the offshore wind sector explained how they use data in an innovative way and convert them into valuable knowledge.

On the second day, the Inn2POWER power project partners explained how this project helped SMEs find international partners for their activities. 

Minister of the North Sea Vincent Van Quickenborne and Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten also explained the federal policy plans in terms of offshore energy during the event. They also mentioned that the Belgian federal government aims to double the installed capacity of offshore wind energy by 2030.

Context

The Belgian Offshore Days are an annually recurring event organised by Belgian Offshore Cluster. This organisation represents the interests of companies active in offshore wind energy and promotes further growth within the sector.

Inn2POWER is a European Interreg project supporting SMEs in setting up innovative cross-border partnerships in offshore wind. The project has 11 partners in 5 countries in the North Sea region, including Blue Cluster.
