On Tuesday 26 March, Blue Cluster, in collaboration with De Tijd, is organizing a debate about the future of the North Sea. Would you like to gain insight into the visions of the different political parties and learn more about the expectations and desires of the industry? Then register and attend this unique debate.

Topics

The following themes will be discussed during the debate:

  • Importance of the blue economy for Flanders (employment and added value);
  • Innovation and economic potential of the blue economy (incl. in the field of internationalisation);
  • Importance of sustainable energy development at sea (including the Belgian energy island);
  • Appearance of the North Sea and sustainable vision on coastal defense (e.g. nature-based solutions);
  • Security of critical infrastructure at sea (wind farms, pipelines, cables, etc.); and
  • Future development of coastal tourism.

Participants

The debate is moderated by De Tijd. The following people have already committed to participate in the debate:

  • Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen);
  • Minister of the North Sea Paul Van Tigchelt (Open Vld);
  • Bert Wollants, member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives (N-VA);
  • Jeroen Soete, municipal councilor in Ostend (Vooruit); and
  • Luc Goossens, managing director at Laborelec.

The debate will take place in the Aula Academica of Ghent University. The language of the event is Dutch.
