Discover the possibilities of a modular sediment bed system

On 4 September, the Coastal & Ocean Basin in Ostend will present the conceptual design of a modular sediment bed system. During this workshop, you will learn how this expansion could create new opportunities for marine research and innovation.

The Coastal & Ocean Basin (COB) is exploring the development of a modular sediment bed system to better support current and future research and innovation challenges. The planned expansion aims to enable more realistic studies of wave, current and sediment interactions, contributing to the development and validation of innovative solutions.

Potential application areas include:

  • offshore foundations and geotechnics;
  • cable protection and anchor-sediment interactions;
  • nature-based coastal defence solutions;
  • erosion and sediment processes in coastal areas;
  • aquaculture and artificial reefs.

In addition to a presentation of the conceptual design, the programme includes a tour of the COB facilities and a demonstration of potential applications. Your feedback will be highly valuable. The organisers are keen to hear your views on opportunities, challenges and needs, so that the system can be developed in line with future applications.

Practical information

his workshop is intended for companies, researchers and other stakeholders active in offshore energy, maritime infrastructure, coastal protection, aquaculture or marine innovation. The workshop will be held in English.

Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is required. You can register until 28 August. Register for the event.

Background

In 2023, Blue Cluster supported COB's application for this expansion through a letter of intent. We are pleased to see the initiative continue to progress and look forward to its next steps.
